How to Roast Nuts

Question:

How to roast nuts? How do you roast nuts?
Is roasting nuts a necessary step in a recipe?

Answer:

Roasted nuts have more flavor and texture than un-roasted nuts, we think that’s an absolute fact. If a recipe says to roast the nuts you may be tempted to skip that step, which you can, but we strongly recommend that you do not skip roasting your nuts!

It’s just a few simple steps to roast nuts, and the extra crunchiness and robust taste that it adds to whatever the recipe makes for 10 minutes well spent. The two easy steps with a big payoff are detailed below.

Steps to Roast Nuts

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 350°F to prepare for roasting nuts.

  2. Spread the shelled nuts out onto a rimmed baking sheet.

  3. Roast (Bake @ 350°F) for 5 – 10 minutes, tossing them around occasionally.

  4. They’ll smell wonderfully fragrant when they’re done and have a browned exterior with a golden interior.

If you don’t otherwise need to heat the oven, nuts can be roasted in a pan on the stove. Spray a pan with a little olive oil then add the nuts and cook on medium heat for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. When they look about done, you can add a little butter, brown sugar and cinnamon and cook for another minute or two if you desire a sweet & crunchy roasted nut.
